Last night, the Derek Trucks Band kicked off its final tour before taking an extended hiatus at Atlanta, GA’s Variety Playhouse. Col. Bruce Hampton opened the night with his band The Quark Alliance, which features Kris Dale, Perry Osborn and Derek’s brother Duane Trucks. During Hampton’s opening set Jimmy Herring, his son Carter and Ike Stubblefield all sat in with the seminal jamband leader. The collaborations continued during Derek Trucks Band’s headlining performance with Herring, Stubblefield, Duane Trucks, Derek’s wife Susan Tedeschi, and Lil Jon all sitting in for a few songs. Of particular note was Herring’s appearance with the Derek Trucks Band on a standout “Get Out of My Life Woman.”
