Velvet Underground singer/guitarist Lou Reed, drummer Maureen ‘Mo’ Tucker and multi-instrumentalist Doug Yule will take the stage together next month. The often estranged musicians will speak with rock critic David Fricke at Manhattan’s New York Public Library on December 8. Along with guitarist Sterling Morrison, who died in 1995, these three musicians were the core of the Velvet Underground during its influential 1968-1970 period. The unexpected reunion coincides with the release of the new Johan Kugelberg edited book The Velvet Underground: New York Art, which features contributions from Tucker and a forward by Reed. Though he toured with a reformed version of the group in the 1990s and appeared with the Velvets at its Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, band co-founder John Cale will not participate in the Q&A.
