Out of the running

Michael Jackson’s Thriller is the final album choice struck from the list of contenders for Phish’s Halloween cover. This leaves eight possibilities, each of which also serves as the name of a campground at Festival 8. The elite eight are…

David Bowie Hunky Dory
Genesis The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
Jimi Hendrix Electric Ladyland
King Crimson Larks’ Tongues In Aspic
MGMT Oracular Spectacular
Prince Purple Rain
Radiohead Kid A
Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street

Speaking of MGMT, Trey Anastasio teased the opening line of the “Kids” during Phish’s evening soundcheck last night in Indio. This was the second soundcheck on Thursday following an afternoon acoustic run-through as well. Stay tuned for coverage of Festival 8, lifted from the front page of the official daily newspaper, the Festival 8 Express.

In in the interim, you may wish to head over to Phish.net. There, the site has posted Charlie Dirksen’s 55 question quiz, which focuses on Phish’s Halloween shows. In addition the site notes, “If you’re headed to Indio (or any upcoming shows), hit up mobile.phish.net (or just m.phish.net) on your cell or WiFi device for song-by-song updates, up-to-the-moment statistics, song histories, and more. And if you register first at phish.net, your device will store a cookie and give you an option to view your personal gaps – the last two times you’ve heard each song that you’re hearing!”
