Allman Brothers Band bassist Oteil Burbridge made an appearance this past Monday with a surprising group of musicians. While in the area for a performance at Hollywood, FL’s Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Casino, Burbridge sat in with the Christopher Columbus High School band for two songs. Burbridge played bass on “One Way Out” and switched to drums for “Statesboro Blues.”

According to an article in The Miami Herald, “The Columbus gig was an idea between old friends Kirk West, the Allman Brothers’ tour manager, and John Lynskey, a 1978 Columbus graduate who returned to the school 26 years ago to teach 12th grade history.” Lynskey serves as the publisher of the Allman Brothers-centric music magazine Hittin’ the Note. The Allman Brothers Band’s current tour will come to a close at Clearwater, FL’s Ruth Eckerd Hall this evening.
