Mike Gordon made a surprise appearance at Asheville, NC’s Emerald Lounge this past Tuesday. The Phish bassist was in the area to perform with his solo band at the Orange Peel and stopped by the club’s regular Tuesday Night Funk Jam. Gordon’s current opening act Rubblebucket took the stage first with the members of Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band—who host the event—for a series of funk-based songs. Mike Gordon Band guitarist Scott Murawski and drummer Todd Isler then took the stage for “The Chicken.” As the song stretched into a lengthy improvisation, Gordon himself took the stage with the ensemble for a jam. Gordon will perform at Atlanta’s Variety Playhouse this evening.
