As he has on occasion between tours, Marco Benevento played a free at Brooklyns Bar 4 last night. The keyboardists band included a handful of area players, most notably Weens Dave Drewitz who played upright bass. The quartet ran through an eclectic mix of material over the course of the evening, ranging from jazz standards to Lionel Richie covers to a take on the Beatles Come Together. Drewitz and Benevento also nodded to their Bustle in Your Hedgerow side-project by offering a series of acoustic Led Zeppelin covers at the start of set two. Benevento invited some guests onstage throughout the night, including Jounce bassist Danny Tamberelli, who sat in on Thelonious Monks Blue Monk, and local piano player Ian Goldsweig. Benevento and American Babies guitarist Tom Hamilton are two of the guests featured on Jounces forthcoming studio album.

The Benevento-Russo Duo will appear at the Spiegeltent this evening. The traveling venue is currently docked at New Yorks South Street Seaport. The keyboardist is also scheduled to perform at Bar 4 next Monday.
