Railroad Earth and Hot Buttered Rums fall tour rolled into Colorado on Friday, where the tourmates played two nights at Englewood, COs The Gothic Theater. Partway through Hot Buttered Rums opening set on night one, Railroad Earths Andy Goessling made his way to the stage to play soprano saxophone on Gumboots and alto saxophone on Backrooms of My Mind. Soon after, Railroad Earth fiddler Tim Carbone took the stage with the group, contributing to Be Kind Boys and Busted In Utah. Not to be outdone, on night two Railroad Earth mandolinist John Skehan also stepped out with the group at the Gothic for a choice version of June Apple.
On both evenings, Railroad Earth also invited some friends onstage during its set. Friday Hot Buttered Rum saxophonist Eric Yates and Panjea trumpeter Dan Sears took the stage for Goat. Hot Buttered Rum mandolinist Zachary Matthews then emerged to help Railroad Earth through People on Earth, before Yates and Sears returned for My Sisters & Brothers. Sears, who is currently based in Colorado, re-emerged the following night to play The Hunting Song with Railroad Earth and, along with Yates, jam with the group on Came Up Smilin and Mississippi Half Step. Hot Buttered Rums Matthews, Yates and Colorado-based fiddler Adam Galblum also sat-in with Railroad Earth on Reuben’s Train during its second set. Hot Buttered Rums tour with Railroad Earth will conclude tonight at Flagstaff, AZs Orpheum Theatre.
