Soulive has announced that it will tour in its original formation as a trio this fall; suits and all. The band has been touring with a fourth member recently, saxophonist Sam Kininger. The trio plans to concentrate on developing new material on the upcoming tour, all of which will be recorded for release on Blue Note Records. Were psyched to be able to record an entire tour and just grab the best moments, says guitarist Eric Krasno. I think this next record will represent Soulive at its best. The live release is due sometime next spring.
The tour kicks off on September 7 with a performance at The Red Hook Brewery in Portsmouth, NH, followed by a three-night run at the intimate Mercury Lounge in New York City, September 12 14. The itinerary also includes dates in New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado, Texas, Wisconsin, Illinois, Massachusetts, Washington DC, South Carolina and Virginia.
In other news, Soulive plans to release Get Down commercially for the first time. The CD, which originally served as the bands demo, is comprised of material recorded the first day the trio ever played together. Two live tracks from the same era have been added to the disc. Its due out September 24 on Velour.
