_This month Chris Thaw introduces Dtbsetlists.com
Marcel, known to the dTb world as P-Nut, was the original founder of the dTbase. He is located in Holland.
Marcel- "I really started dTbase because the existing fansite did not continue to update. Many of the setlists were posted on the listserv, but nobody ever did anything with them. I decided to make a site and told everyone to send in any setlists they had. My goal was to promote the Derek Trucks Band and to give everyone, including myself, a good source for the setlists. It was real fun doing it and immediately the site began getting some fame around the big jam scene. The site’s link appeared all around the net and within a few months I was getting more email than I could handle. Living in Holland, it was getting difficult to communicate with fans in the USA. There was no way of making sure the setlists were correct. I just lived too far away to communicate with the band. That’s when I decided to hand over the site to Chris."
Chris- "I first discovered Derek Trucks when he played with the Allman Brothers Band at The Beacon Theater in the mid 1990’s. I can’t say that I immediately recognized his prowess. I really only became a die-hard fan after seeing The Derek Trucks Band for the first time @ The Baker Ballroom in Dover, NJ 11/21/01. My wife and I both left that first experience with DTB saying, "I can’t believe we have never seen them before". We were hooked!
In January of 2004 I noticed that Marcel’s dTbase site was down. It stayed down for a few weeks and no one could get in touch with him. So I started a subpage on my personal homepage, dedicated to posting DTB setlists. Then in February ’04, Marcel contacted me and emailed me his database of setlists that dated back to when Derek was 9 years old. With this information in hand, I decided to create a permanent home on the web for tapers and fans to find DTB setlists. I registered www.dtbsetlists.com and it has quickly grown in popularity. I recently added an updated list of band related articles & reviews, pictures from shows submitted by fans or in the press, pictures of the hand-painted setlists that Yonrico Scott hands out each night, and links to downloads of shows off the "Live Audio Music Archive". The fans and the band all seem to appreciate the effort and I enjoy the work. I hope to be able to create a fully searchable database in the near future.
The most important byproduct of dTbase is that it has brought fans together from all over the country and the globe as well as turning more people on to this phenomenal band. I get emails from fans all over the country and from the far reached of the globe. The recent shows in Japan even produced emails from Japanese fans. I used to rely on fans sending setlists in after seeing the shows, which was unreliable. To avoid having holes in the database, I arranged with Joe Main, DTB’s road manager extraordinaire, that he would call me with lists after each show. Now, as time allows, that is how it works. The dTbase continues to grow and more features get added often. Come by and visit the dTbase, browse the database, download a show, enjoy the glory that is The Derek Trucks Band!
