Big Ears Festival Announces Additional Acts to 2022 Lineup
Knoxville, Tenn.’s Big Ears festival announced several additions to its 2022 lineup; they’ll now welcome artists including John Medeski, Patti Smith, George, Ben Lamar Gay, Marisa Anderson & William Tyler, Julian Lage, Yasim Williams, Maeve Gilchrist, Evan Ziporyn, Claire Rousay, Odean Pope & Immanuel Wilkins, and Ensemble Dal Niente & Ken Vandermark. The event is set to take place from March 24 through 27.
Smith is scheduled to put on two performances during the weekend’s festivities; First, she’ll put on “Words & Music,” an intimate evening comprised of an acoustic performance and live reading; second, she’ll play a complete electric set with her band.
Ben Lamar Gay will lead a quartet to play selections off his upcoming album, Open Arms to Open Us, which will be released on Nov. 19. Ensemble Dal Niente and saxophonist Ken Vandermark will perform a new composition by Roscoe Mitchell in a collaborative effort. The ensemble will also put on free performances at the Knoxville Museum of Art during the festival weekend.
The list of acts are in addition to the previously announced lineup, which includes Animal Collective, Annette Peacock, Sparks, John Zorn, Moses Sumney, Low, Yves Tumor, Kronos Quartet, Bill Callahan and more.
