Yesterday, the paperback edition of Alan Paul’s One Way Out: The Inside History of the Allman Brothers was released with an extensive new chapter on the band’s tumultuous final year along with fifteen new photos by Kirk West, Danny Clinch, Derek McCabe and Derek Trucks. New photos include rehearsals from the band’s final Beacon Theatre run as well as their final portrait ever, taken before they walked on stage for the final time.
The new chapter features new interviews with most members of the band as well as a check-in with Dickey Betts, who made waves around that time over whether or not he was asked to sit in during the final run.
To celebrate the release of the new edition, Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band will play the release party on March 1 at the Brooklyn Bowl. Scott Sharrard, who serves as Gregg Allman’s guitarist and musical director, will open up the show with his Brickyard Band. Jaimoe and Paul will both be on hand to sign copies of the book. Tickets are available here.
On March 7, Butch Trucks will participate in a book signing at Words Bookstore in Maplewood, NJ. Trucks will sign books and have a conversation with Paul about his time with the band. Trucks will also answer some audience questions.
Paul’s Big in China Band will play The Ardmore in Philadelphia on March 11, rounding out a week of book signings. Big in China as well as openers Old Soul will present a night of Allman Brothers Band music and more along with a book signing.
