Karl Denson Shows Moved Amidst Flurry of Allegations
The Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe shows scheduled for the Kalakala in Seattle this weekend have been moved to Super Highway, also in Seattle. The Kalakala is a 60-year old boat maintained by the Kalakala Foundation, a non-profit organization that holds benefit events to restore the ship. The ship's permit allows the foundation to serve alchohol at twelve events per year. The show was canceled after the Kalakala Board of Directors received phone calls from the Washinton State Liquor Control Board. “The liquor board announced that they thought there would be gangs because we were advertising the shows on an Urban-Asian website ,” says KDTU manager Erik Newson. “They called the Kalakala and informed them that there would be Black and Asian gang members at their function.”
Although rumors of racist motives are circulating, Peter Bevis, founder and president of the Kalakala Foundation, says the shows were canceled because of strict Coast Guard guidlines. “The official reason the show has been canceled is because the promoter advertised advanced ticket sales. This crosses technical lines with the Coast Guard. Once you sell tickets to come on board a ship, you are now a passenger-carrying commercial vessel. The original word from the Liquor Control Board was that this event was being advertised on Black and Asian gang webpages and that’s one of the things that got all the confetti in the air and that’s one of the reasons that the coast guard took another look at it. I looked at Urbanasia.com and it didn’t look like a gang page to me, not that I’d know what one looks like.”
The State Liquor Control Board and the Coast Guard were unavailable for comment.
For ticket information on tonight and tomorrow night's shows at Super Highway, visit http://www.karldenson.com . The venue is located at 432 2nd Ave. in Seattle. For specific directions, call 206-632-4033.

Financial Advisor Charged with Stealing Millions from Entertainment Clients, Including Phish
Financial advisor Dana Giacchetto, whose celebrity clients for the Cassandra Group include Phish, has been charged with three criminal counts for allegedly stealing at least $6 million of his clients' funds, including $4.7 million from Phish. Giacchetto was charged yesterday with securities fraud, fraud and lying to the Securities and Exchange Commission. He also allegedly transferred over $20 million out of his clients’ accounts. His celebrity roster includes R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe, Alanis Morissette, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Ben Stiller among others.
After Phish’s accountant discovered suspicious withdrawals and confronted Giacchetto, he claimed he would send replacement checks. The SEC alleges that instead of sending the checks, Giacchetto withdrew even more money. After members of the band complained, he agreed in writing to pay the group the money back. SEC documents also show he admitted that Cassandra had misappropriated the funds.
