Jamie Shields Added to The Maui Project

Jamie Shields, keyboardist for the New Deal, has been added to the line up of The Maui Project. Marc Brownstein, former bass player for The Disco Biscuits, put together the line up for a show at Wetlands Preserve April 8. The group consists of Brownstein and Shields as well as Dave Hoffman of ulu on drums, Max Delaney of Uncle Sammy on guitar, Mike Magee on turntables and Paul Herron on Percussion.

After rehearsing with most of the band this past weekend, Brownstein is very excited about the direction of the music. “I'm very psyched," says Brownstein. “I've written roughly ten new songs that are conceptually related to each other. The songs encompass a broad range of popular music styles and will be performed together in one set. The second set of music will be a mixture of other original songs that I’ve written, both new and old that are unrelated to The Maui Project. I’m really psyched after our last rehearsal when everything started to fall into place and we got to hear what the songs were going to sound like."

Tickets for the Maui Project are available now through Ticketmaster or at the Wetlands box office with no surcharge.

The Disco Biscuits to Release New Album This Fall

The Disco Biscuits are currently recording their new album as a trio, from the band's home studio in Philadelphia. The CD will be released in the fall on Hydrophonics/Rykodisc. "As a trio, we're experimenting with new sounds and textures," says guitarist and vocalist Jon Gutwillig. "We've added new instruments and effects to the mix so we can create sounds that have not yet been invented. I think if we can create a sound spectrum that blends fantasy with reality then we can take improvised electronic music to the next level." The band recently parted ways with bass player Marc Brownstein. Although auditions are underway for a new bassist, the Biscuits will perform as a trio at their upcoming shows in March and April. The band plans on using computers and samplers in addition to their normal instruments on stage this spring. Each year I am blown away.” Freebeerandchicken and Pete Stewart will perform earlier in the evening. Only 250 tickets are available to the general public.
