Acoustic Junction Returns With New Release
Colorado-based Acoustic Junction will release a new album next
month appropriately entitled Strange Days. The group, which first began
performing in 1991, changed its name to Fool's Progress six years later.
At the time it was thought that since the band had evolved
beyond its original acoustic roots a new moniker was required. The group
then released one eponymous album for Capricorn as Fool's Progress.
However, after discovering that some fans were unaware of the change the
band finally returned to its name this past October, touring the country
to some acclaim. The new disc, which will appear on Omad Records, includes
guest appearances By Graham Nash and Billy Conway (Morphine).
Mountain Jam?
Corky Laing will perform tonight at the Bottom Line in New York City. Laing
played in the band Mountain during the 1970s. Leslie West, also formerly of
Mountain, is on the guestlist for tonight's show and is expected to sit in.
However, nothing has been confirmed. Laing is also currently a member of the
band
Cork, with former Spin Doctors guitarist Eric Schenkman and bassist Mark
White.
Derek Trucks to Appear on Letterman
Derek Trucks will sit in with the CBS Orchestra on The Late Show with David
Letterman March 22. A source has told Jambands.com that Trucks will be a
featured guest for the entire show. Trucks will be in New York with the
Allman Brothers Band for thirteen shows at the Beacon Theater March 9 - 25
and four dates with the Derek Trucks Band March 15, 18, 22 and 25. The Late
Show is taped from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. after which Trucks will head to the
Makor for a 9 p.m. performance with the Derek Trucks Band.
Al & the Transamericans Announce Date
Al Schnier of moe. has announced that his side project, Al & the
Transamericans, will perform March 16 at Wetlands Preserve in New York City.
The line up will feature Schnier on guitar, Reid Genauer of Strangefolk on
guitar and vocals, Ted Marotta of the Ominous Seapods on drums, Kirk
Juhas of
Freebeerandchicken on keyboards, Jim Loughlin of moe. on bass and Rolf Witt
on mandolin, fiddle and guitar. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10 a.m.
through
Ticketmaster and at the Wetlands box office with no surcharge.
More details on moe.'s forthcoming live album, L, are expected to be
announced soon.
Barbara Cue to Embark on Mini-tour
Barbara Cue has announced that it will tour for the first time. Based in
Athens, GA, the band is comprised of Widespread Panic drummer Todd Nance,
Paul "Crumpy" Edwards from Bloodkin on bass and guitar, John Mills on bass
and guitar, John Neff of The Star Room Boys on pedal steel and William Tonks
on vocals and guitar.
Barbara Cue is playing with Bloodkin for six shows including last night at
Proud Larry's in Oxford, MS. Tonight they're at Jack Legs in Nashville, TN;
February 5 at Zydeco's in Birmingham, AL; February 10 at The Visualite in
Charlotte, NC; February 11 at Rafter's in Boone, NC; and February 12 at
Ziggy's Winston-Salem, NC.

New Releases From Jack Pearson
Former Allman Brothers Band guitarist Jack Pearson has released two new
albums. Pearson joined the Allman Brothers in 1997 when Warren Haynes left.
He remained in the band until Derek Trucks replaced him in 1999. The first
new CD, Jack Pearson, is an instrumental compilation of blues and jazz
originals that he composed. There are many special guests, including Jaimoe
(Allman Brothers Band), Jim Horn (George Harrison), Paul Langosch (Tony
Bennett), Jimmy Nalls (Sea Level), and A.J. McMahon (Jimmy Buffett). The
second new release, William Howse & Jack Pearson, features Howse and
Pearson
as an acoustic blues duo. Howse plays harmonica and sings. Pearson also
appears as a guest on A.J. McMahon's new album, Mek Man. All three

Al Kooper and Guests to Perform Saturday
Al Kooper will celebrate his 56th birthday with his band, The Rekooperators
this Saturday at Wetlands Preserve in New York City. Kooper is a rock
legend, who aside from playing in Blood, Sweat & Tears, has played on records
by The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and the Who. He played the signature
keyboard riff in Bob Dylan's rock anthem "Like a Rolling Stone" and also
produced Lynyrd Skynyrd's first three albums. The Rekooperators' line up
features Jimmy Vivino (the Max Weinberg 7, from Late Night with Conan
O'Brien), Anton Fig (CBS Orchestra, from The Late Show with David Letterman)
and Michael Merrit. Saturday's show will be their debut performance.

Former Zuba Singer to Perform Tonight
Liza Oxnard, lead singer of the Colorado-based band Zuba, will perform an
acoustic show tonight at Round Midnight in Boulder, CO. She will be opening
for the Wendy Woo Band at 9 p.m. and then singing and playing electric guitar
during their set. Liza sat in with String Cheese Incident on "Born on the
Wrong Planet" on New Year's Eve at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland,

Burt Neilson Band to Tour Canada
The Burt Neilson Band kicked off its winter tour Saturday at the Outpost in
Thunder Bay, Ontario. The band will tour extensively throughout Canada in

Dixie Dregs Announce Tour, Release New Album
The Dixie Dregs have announced that they will be touring with Dream Theater
in February and March. The line up features Steve Morse, T Lavitz, Rod
Morgenstein, Jerry Goodman, Dave LaRue, and Andy West. It is the first time
this line up has played together in sixteen years. The tour begins
Friday at
the Palace Theater in Los Angeles, CA and concludes March 4 at Pompano Beach

Melvin Sparks to Jam with Karl Denson's Tiny Universe
Tonight
Karl Denson's Tiny Universe will perform tonight at the House of Blues in Los
Angeles, CA. Jazz guitarist Melvin Sparks will join the band on stage as a
special guest. Project Logic will open the show and DJ Logic will be
spinning before the show and in between sets. Also look for a guest
appearance from Logic during Tiny Universe's set. Sparks and Logic are in
L.A. recording with Denson for his upcoming solo album, due out this spring.
The album also features Fred Wesley on trombone, Chris Wood on bass, Leon
Spencer Jr. on organ, Ron Levy on organ, and Zak Najor of the Greyboy

Pat Metheny Announces Tour
Pat Metheney has announced he will tour next month in support of his new
album, Trio '99->'00. The album is due to be released February 8 on
Warner
Bros. Metheny will tour with bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Bill
Stewart, who also appear on the album. The tour begins with a two-night
stand at the Tralf in Buffalo, NY and concludes April 2 at the Royce Hall in

Grateful Dead Marathon This Saturday
David Gans, host of the Grateful Dead Hour, has announced further details on
the upcoming KPFA Grateful Dead Marathon. The radio fund-raiser will air
from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. this Saturday on 94.1 FM in Northern California. The
show will also be webcast on
Dead.net. Gans says some highlights of the
marathon will include a portion of 5/12/74, a preview of Dick's Picks
#16,
Deads songs that were only played a handful of times, an acoustic set, parts
of a rehearsal from 1990, new interpretations of Dead classics as well as
music from 1967, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1977, 1981, 1982, 1984,

Steely Dan Records for PBS
Steely Dan recorded a set of new and old songs Saturday at Sony Studios in
New York City. The performance was filmed for the upcoming PBS series "In
the Spotlight," which is scheduled to begin March 1 (an air date for Steely
Dan's segment has not yet been announced). Donald Fagen and Walter Becker
were joined by a eleven musicians including four horn players and three back
up singers. They performed hits such as "Black Friday," "Deacon Blues," "Do
it Again" and "Josie" as well as "Gaslighting Abbie" and "Janie Runaway" off
of the new album,
Two Against Nature
. The album is the first Steely Dan
studio release in more than twenty years. It is due out February 29.
Derek Trucks Band Announces Four NYC Dates
Allman Brothers Band guitarist, Derek Trucks will perform four shows in New
York City with his own group, The Derek Trucks Band, during the Allmans'
thirteen-night run at the Beacon Theater in March. Wednesday March 15, they
will play the Fez Under Time Café. It is an off night for the Allmans, so
the show will start at 9 p.m. The performance will be jazz-oriented. The
venue does not issue actual tickets, but you can make reservations within a
month of the show by calling 212-533-7000. Wednesday March 22, they will play
the Makor, again with a jazz theme and an early show time of 9 p.m. due to
the ABB day off. Tickets are available now through

office. They will also play two Saturday night shows, which will be
post-Allman Brothers performances and will feature the band's heavier
rock/fusion sound. Saturday March 18, they'll play the Mercury Lounge at 11

Warren Haynes Jams with Blue Floyd
Warren Haynes sat in with Blue Floyd last night at Wetlands Preserve in New
York City. Blue Floyd plays blues explorations into the music of Pink Floyd
and features Allen Woody on guitar, Matt Abts on drums, Marc Ford on guitar,
Johnny Neel on keyboards and Berry Oakley JR on bass and vocals. Last
night's setlist included Pink Floyd classics such as "One of These Days,"
"Interstellar Overdrive," "Wish You Were Here," "Hey You," "Another Brick in
the Wall Part II," "Echoes," and "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" among others.
During the entire second set, the band performed in front of a projection of
"The Wizard of Oz". Haynes joined the band for "Money" towards the end of

Haynes will be appearing on various television and radio programs beginning
February 14 in Seattle, WA. He will be promoting Gov't Mule's new album,

Victor Wooten Solo Dates Added
More dates have been added to Victor Wooten's solo tour. The line up
features Wooten brothers Regi and Joseph Wooten as well as JD Blair. They
play tonight at Humpty's in Tahoe City, CA and tomorrow night at Big Shot in
Roseville, CA. Wooten is touring in support of his Grammy nominated album,
Yin Yang. The tour concludes February 9 at the Alladin Theater in

Cool Water Canyon CD Release Party
Cool Water Canyon will hold its CD release party February 11 at Victoria Hall
in Santa Barbara, CA. The new album is a double CD entitled Far From
Home
and features twenty original studio tracks. The band consists of Drew Allen
on guitar and vocals, Carter Beim on bass, Matt Grover on drums and vocals,
Brian Stone on keyboards and vocals and Jesse Tyre-Karpe on guitar and
vocals. The band was voted best area band in 1998 by the students of the

Mike Gordon Sits in with Max Creek
Phish bass player Mike Gordon sat in with Max Creek Friday night at Higher
Ground in Winooski, VT. Gordon joined the band for the entire second set,
which included "Love Makes You Lose Your Mind"--> "Can't Let Go," and "I want
to Die Easy"->"Cities". For the encore, Gordon played on "The Bug," and
"Henry"->"Just a Rose."
On 1/25/97, Max Creek guitarist Scott Murawski and Gordon played together in
a side project called the Drop Caps at Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor Michigan.
The line up also included Gordon Stone and Greg DeGuglielmo. On 7/13/99,
Murawski joined Phish on stage at the TweeterCenter in Mansfield, MA for
"Possum" and the Lynyrd Skynyrd cover, "Tuesday's Gone".
The Disco Biscuits Announce Date at Wetlands
The Disco Biscuits have announced they will play a show, as a trio, at
Wetlands Preserve in New York City March 11. This will be the band's first
performance since parting ways with bassist Marc Brownstein. "They will be
playing as a three-piece, so expect a lot of new stuff," says manager Chris
Zahn. The three remaining members of The Disco Biscuits are Jon Gutwillig,
Aron Magner and Sammy Altman. "We will play songs, jams, and make noises,"
Gutwilling said in a statement posted to the band's listserve. "We will be
playing all sorts of different instruments - at the same time! Expect the
music to vary from funky downtempo vibe to hard goa trance." The band has
been speaking with some different bass players, but auditions are not
expected to start until mid-February. Tickets for the March 11 show go on

Dexter Grove Winter Tour to Feature Guests
Dexter Grove kicked off its winter tour Wednesday at the Soiled Dove in
Denver, CO. The duo features guitarist Charley Orlando and percussionist
Steve Drizos. February 29 through March 7, Dexter Grove will be transformed
from a duo into a quartet. moe. percussionist Jim Loughlin will join them on
