Jambands.com and EZCD.com Enter Into Agreement
Beginning in February, a new feature will be made available to
jambands.com visitors. The site has entered into an exclusive agreement
with
EZCD.com to present a co-branded site which will allow individuals to
create custom CDs from a range of sanctioned band releases. At present,
EZCD.com offers 150,000 tracks from over 17,000 bands who appear on more
than 500 labels. EZCD.com's Jesse Redniss states, "We have
created a legal and affordable method for jam fans to find and purchase
live and studio recorded music from their favorite bands available on high
quality custom CDs." Dean Budnick, editor-in-chief of this site adds,
"This is just the beginning of what we hope to do to make the site more
fun and functional while continuing to spread the word about the music we
support. Within the next week, we'll have an announcement about a cool new
feature which I know will make the site more enjoyable (and certainly
louder) while also helping to expose the sounds of this diverse, vibrant
scene."

Notable Guests Join Stir Fried
The third album from New Jersey-based Stir Fried will feature a
number of guest performances. Long-time collaborators Buddy Cage and
Vasser Clements will continue their relationships with the band, lending
their distinctive sounds to many of the tracks. Additionally, an eclectic
group of musicians including Dr. John, Bernie Worrell and Tony Trischka
have contributed to the disc, entitled "Last of the Blue Diamond
Miners." Two songs from the March release are currently available at the
band's web site,
www.stirfried.com. The group will travel west in
February,
performing a number of dates in Colorado with Buddy Cage and some
additional players as well.
Phish Tribute Album Planned
The non-profit Mockingbird Foundation has announced
that it is assembling an album featuring a range of artists
covering original Phish compositions. The Foundation has approached a
number of musicians who have performed with the band to request
live and/or studio tracks. Foundation board member Ellis Godard states,
"To say I've been pleasantly surprised by reactions is an understatement,
given the caliber of acts invited thus far. That these artists have been so
receptive to the idea is a testament to the significance of Phish and
their music." The Foundation, which is in the process of completing "a
definitive Phish encyclopedia," will donate all profits from sales of the
book and the album to charitable organizations. The working title of the
release is "The Mockingbird Tribute" which Godard indicates mirrors the
book ("Project Mockingbird") and "continues the simplicity Phish espouses
in their own titles (e.g. A Picture of Nectar and A Live One)." The
Foundation anticipates announcing the final line-up by the end of February
with a tentative release date of Summer 2000. For additional information
on the album and the book visit the organization's web site at

Phoenix Presents Soup
The latest release in the Phoenix Presents live series is drawn
from two performances by Atlanta's Soup. The two shows in question took
place at the Cotton Club in Atlanta on September 24, 1999 and at New
York's Wetlands on October 2, 1999. Sam Kopper, who has been manning the
sound truck for most of the Phoenix Presents releases, produced the
release. Kopper, the original program director at Boston's WBCN in the
late 1960's, went on to produce a number of notable shows (including Live
Aid). The Phoenix Presents series, which began with Jiggle The Handle and
Blueground Undergrass, will offer a number live performances in the months
to come. Soup will celebrate the disc with two release
parties in the cities where the shows originally took place, at Wetlands
on February 2nd and at Smith's Olde Bar in Atlanta on February 11th.

Peach Corps and Allman Brothers Band Foil Scalpers
The Allman Brothers Band's on-line fan group, the Peach Corps, has
taken the extra effort to strike back against scalpers. A few weeks ago,
the band had allowed members of the Corps to participate in a pre-sale of
tickets to its upcoming Beacon Theatre run. After learning about
some suspect sales based on the volume of tickets sold to certain
entities, the Corps painstakingly checked the list of purchasers versus
its own database. After discovering over a hundred inconsistencies the
Corps successfully asked the ABB, the Beacon and Ticketmaster to
invalidate these unauthorized sales. The Corps then reoffered these tickets
to its members.

knows, but it's a secret," says moe. publicist Jim Walsh. "They won't tell
me." L will be moe.'s 6th album and is due to be released in the
early
spring on Fatboy Records. More details on the album will be announced next

Marathon Grateful Dead Broadcast
David Gans, of the Grateful Dead Hour, will host the 15th Annual KPFA
Grateful Dead Marathon, Saturday, February 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. The
sixteen hour event is a fundraiser for the public radio station. "What's
extra special about it this year is that it's gonna be webcast via
dead.net
in a way that everyone will be able to hear," says Gans. "There will be a
combination of things including several complete shows and some thematic
things and rarities. I've got an interview with Mickey Hart that will come
with some music, including some unreleased Planet Drum stuff. There will
also be some old rehearsal tapes and old recording sessions of the Dead. I'm
also working with the archivist in the vault, pulling out some really special
things that no one's ever heard before and I'm trying to cover material from
different eras. Another thing that is different about this year's marathon
is that probably most of the material that I play on this program will
not be
heard on the regular Grateful Dead Hour. I want to make it really an
extremely thrilling day for Dead Heads. I want it to be an all day
adventure."
KPFA broadcasts at 91.4 FM in Northern California. If you're interested in
helping to answer the pledge phones at the station, call 1-510-848-6767 ext.
400. Gans is also taking requests for the show at
Dead.net.
Big Brother is Listening
New technology now allows the world's largest concert promoter and venue
operator, SFX Entertainment, to learn what radio station people are listening
to as they drive into venue parking lots. This information is very valuable
to businesses tracking marketing campaigns. The device, designed by
Mobiltrack, monitors the frequency of the station playing on a vehicle's
radio, by detecting emissions from the radio's oscillator. SFX has installed
the system in 13 locations, including Los Angeles, Phoenix, Atlanta and The
TweeterCenter in Mansfield, MA.

New Album on the way from Neil Young
Neil Young's new album, Silver and Gold, is due to be released this
April.
It is his 29th album and features ten songs that Young has previously
unveiled in the live setting. The CD has a similar feel to acoustic-oriented
albums such as 1972's Harvest and Young's 1992 follow up,
Harvest
Moon. "You
could definitely think of it as the unofficial third in the trilogy of
Harvest albums," says Reprise Records spokesperson Bob Merlis. Young
recorded with singers Emmy Lou Harris and Linda Ronstadt and both are
expected to be featured on the album. Songs that will be on the album
include "Good to See You," "Silver and Gold," "Daddy Went Walkin'," "Buffalo
Springfield Again," "Great Divide," "Horseshoe Man," "Red Sun," "Distant
Camera," "Razor Love" and "Without Rings."
The album was originally scheduled to be released last year, but was
postponed by production on Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young's first album in
over a decade, Looking Forward. CSNY will launch a national tour
January 24
at The Palace at Auburn Hills in Detroit, MI. For a complete list of CSNY
tour dates, visit
