Furthur Talks Underway
It is quite likely that after a one year hiatus the Furthur Festival will
return during the summer of 2000. A source has told jambands.com that
negotiations are now underway to return the event to ampitheaters nationwide.
Bob Weir and Mickey Hart appear ready to join the tour, which was named after
the International Harvester bus driven cross-country by Ken Kesey and the
Merry Pranksters. Other possible performers include Hot Tuna, Bruce Hornsby,
Sherri Jackson and Rusted Root. Furthur alumni moe. is not likely to be "on
the bus" this summer, as it will probably be ensconced in the studio
(although a brief Summer Session reprise is not out of the question). Phil
Lesh's participation also seems unlikely, given the recent acrimony
concerning the future of the Dead archives, although all plans remain
tentative at this time.
Ike Willis To Join K,V & H On New Year's Eve
In an official statement from the band, Steve Kimock, Bobby Vega and Alan
Hertz have announced that they are parting ways with Ray White. On two
separate occasions White failed to attend a gig (most recently at the
Maritime Hall last week, when Chip Rowland sat in with the group). While the
trio has not confirmed a permanent replacement, it has invited Ike Willis to
perform with the band at the Maritime Hall on New Year's Eve (where it will
join a bill that also includes the Derek Trucks Band and John Lee Hooker).
Like White, Willis rose to prominence through his association with Frank
Zappa. Willis served as Zappa's principal vocalist and foil during a ten year
stretch from 1978 to 1988. The "bionic baritone" appears on some of the late
composer/guitarist's most celebrated albums, performing as Joe in Joe's
Garage and also in the title role of Thingfish on that release.
Deep Banana Blackout Welcomes Guests
Deep Banana Blackout has just announced that it will invite a number of
musicians to join the group onstage on December 29 and 30. The line-up will
be enhanced fourfold, with Michael Ray on trumpet, Peter Prince on guitar and
vocals, Dr. Didg on digeridoo and Bryan Smith on tuba. It is quite possible
that another guest or two will take the stage as well. Tickets for all three
nights of the Wetlands run, which culminates on New Year's Eve are available
at ticketmaster.

Around The Fire In Theaters Nationwide
Around the Fire, a film which presents the story of a young man
on tour with a fictional rock band (modeled on the Grateful Dead) will
receive its national theatrical release in late February/Early March.
Producer/co-writer Tommy Rosen, a former tourhead himself told
jambands.com that he is eager for people within the jam band community to
see the movie, which reflects the music, culture and ethos of the road.
The film's soundtrack includes music from the
Grateful Dead, Phish, String Cheese Incident and Vinyl. For more
information, visit the film's web site,
www.aroundthefire.com.
Webmaster note:
I saw this movie at the Seattle International Film Festival in 1998.
I've been talking up the tour scenes ever since and am excited for the
release. Warning - you'll never think of "Cars Trucks Buses" in quite the same way again.

Jon Gutwillig Jams with Brothers Past
In the midst of a crazy weekend at the Wetlands Preserve in New York City,
Jon Gutwillig of the Disco Biscuits joined Brothers Past for their debut
performance in the lounge Saturday night. "It was definitely cool for all of
us having 'Barber' sit in," says keyboardist Tom McKee. "I've always
appreciated the way he plays and now that I've gotten to know him a little
bit, I can really appreciate what he's trying to do musically. It's all about
the next level, which is what we're trying to do too. The only thing that
could have made it even more intense was having a third guitar rig around so
that he, Tom and Jim could have played together. That would have been the
next level." The jam lasted for nearly forty minutes of the band's three-set
performance. Brothers past will return to the Wetlands January 7.
Guests Expected for God Street Wine Farewell Shows
God Street Wine will play their final shows tonight, tomorrow and Thursday at
the Wetlands Preserve in New York City. The band announced their breakup in
early November. Many special guests are expected during the three-night
stand, including Blues Traveler front man John Popper, who is expected to sit
in tomorrow night. Tickets for tonight's performance are still available at
the Wetlands box office. Although the shows on Wednesday and Thursday are
sold out, a limited number of tickets will be released at the door.
moe. Changes NYE Venue
moe. has announced a change in venue for their New Year's Eve event, dubbed
"moellennium". Magic City Productions was promoting the shows, scheduled for
December 30 and 31 at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center, in NY. Last week, the
production company learned that all police and fire departments in the area
will be on-call on New Year's Eve for Y2K-related issues. By law, the venue
cannot open its doors without the fire marshall and at least three police
officers in attendance. As a result, the shows have been moved to The
Chance, an opera house, also in Poughkeepsie, that has been converted into a
concert theater. There has also been a third show scheduled for Wednesday,
December 29. All tickets purchased for the Mid-Hudson Civic Center shows on
12/30 and 12/31 will be honored at the Chance. There are still tickets
available for all three nights. Advance ticket prices for 12/30 and 12/31
will remain the same ($25.50 and $35.50 respectively). Advance tickets for
12/29 are $20. All tickets are available through Terrapin Tapes at
800-677-8650, at the Chance Box Office at 914-471-1966 or through
Ticketmaster.

Dave Fiuczynski and Oteil Jam with Soulive
Dave Fiuczynski and Oteil Burbridge joined Soulive Saturday night at the
Stone Church in Newmarket, NH. Soulive keyboardist Neal Evans, who normally
handles bass duites with his left hand, was not at the show due to personal
reasons. Oteil played bass for the entire show and Fiuczynski played guitar
along with Soulive guitarist Eric Krasno. The show was the second sell out
of the weekend for Soulive, who packed the Wetlands Preserve in New York City
Friday night at their CD release party.
