On Jan. 28, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead returned to The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y., where they continued their 10th-anniversary celebration. After kicking things off at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl on Thursday night–alongside surprise guests Bobby Weir–the group made their way to the historic venue, where they kept the party going on Friday and well into Saturday night. Last night’s concert also included frequent Joe Russo collaborator Stuart Bogie.

The favored Grateful Dead tribute band, which features premiere musicians Russo, Marco Benevento, Dave Dreiwitz, Scott Metzger and Tom Hamilton, took the stage and jammed into the first full song of the night, the Built to Last number, “Foolish Heart,” which saw Hamilton lead the iconic lyrics and guest, Bogie lend a groove on saxophone.

The ensemble morphed their opener into “Slipknot!” sans its typical “Help On The Way” companion. Instead, they opted for “Casey Jones,” which ran into a rousing take on “Cumberland Blues.” Next, JRAD cut into “My Brother Esau,” accompanied by a stunning take on the Phil Lesh and Robert Hunter penned “Box of Rain.” Finally, the first frame saw the group’s namesake drummer break a sweat on the kit as they approached the set’s final song, “Playing in the Band.”

After a break, the ensemble returned, and the show’s second half got underway with a tune from Jerry Garcia’s Cats Under the Stars set, “Rubin and Cherise.” Watch below. Then, they added in Otis Redding’s “Hard to Handle,” a number the Grateful Dead often tossed into their setlist during the late-‘60s and early-‘70s.

JRAD continued to roll out fan favorites as they worked through “Eyes of the World,” “Brown-Eyed Woman” and “Estimated Prophet.” Next, the excited crowd welcomed the placement of “Ramble On Rose,” followed by The Young Rascals’ hit “Good Lovin.” Finally, as a fitting end to the second set, the group delivered “Touch of Grey.”

The ensemble returned for their encore, landing on a fiery rendition of the Garcia favorite “Deal,” which kept the audience dancing till the last line. After Saturday night’s show, JRAD will return to the Capitol Theatre this evening for the final stand of their 10th-anniversary concert.
